MARBLE

Miscellaneous

Notes

(Richard Willis)

Metamorphic rock, essentially of limestone (“Cal-Spar”) in its crystalline state, thus stable when wet. Crushed to powder it can be used as a stable CaO (in contrast to lime or “live calcium”), in the same sense that flint can be crushed to powder to be used as SiO. Rarely pure, likely accompanied by dolomite, flogopite, wollastonite, etc. Formed by regional metamorphosis and contact with calcium. Types vary usually by percentage of silica to calcium plus other impurities. see CaCO3 rocks such as calcite, and also Skarn-Wollastonite
