ALUMINOSILICATES
Miscellaneous
- Family: Raw Mineral
- Region: None
- Mined At: Unspecified
- Raw Mineral: Yes
- Generic: No
Notes
(Richard Willis)
Members of any of the groups of the silicates of aluminum which have the same chemical makeup but with distinct characteristics in terms of refractory/flux and crystalline geometry owing to how each chain their elements atoms. The minerals are found in schistose rocks. Of particular interest to the ceramist are the aluminosilicate minerals which comprise the various groupings of feldspars in particular the barium, calcium, lithium, potassium, and sodium aluminosilicates.
