Notes
Hectalite is a very plastic magnesium-rich smectite clay of microfine particles. It is used for emulsion stabilizing, gelling, suspending and binding (household products, aerosols, paints, enamels). This material has a chemistry that is very unlike other typical fine particled clays.
Physical properties as per Product Data Sheet 10/1990
Brightness: 70 minimum
Viscosity, 5% Dispersion Brookfield LVT at 60 rpm: 600-1600 cps
Density: 2.6 g/cubic cm
Swelling Power: Minimum 24 mls
Texture: Soft, slippery
Color: White to off-white
Wet Particle Size:
Through 200 mesh: 99.75%
Through 325 mesh: 97.0%
Moisture %, Maximum: 6-10%
pH (2% slurry): 9.0-11.0
