Halloysite

Miscellaneous

Notes

(Richard Willis)

A clay-making mineral of the group kaolin-serpentine (kaolinite, lizardite, chrysolite), of the ideal form Al4[(OH)8Si4O10] (H2O)4 with a typical empirical analysis of Al2O3 34.7%, SiO2 40.8%, H< SUB>2O 24.5% & traces of Fe, Cr, Mg, Ni, Cu
Hardness: 1-2 Density: 2-2.2 Soluble in HCl
Popular hydrous alumina-silicate, having similarities to both montmorillonite and kaolinite. Common to natural deposits of many types of clays.
