Garnet Dust

Miscellaneous

Notes

Garnets have the general formula:

3(CaO|MgO|FeO|MnO) (Al2O3|Fe2O3|Cr2O3) 3SiO2
ie. 3FeO Al2O3 3SiO2

Because of the and lack of cleavage planes, its main commercial usage is as an abrasive. However some ceramists use fine garnet dust byproducts in glazes.
