Volcanic rock, essentially of plagioclase (labradorite-bytownite) and pyroxene, with Nephelinite, leucite, amphibole, and biotite. Formed by basal lava. A common variety is limbergite. Its principal use these days is to provide the base for creating the “Teflon” coating on cooking wares. It can be used as a glaze, vitrifying from 1100 to 1250ºC (from opaque to transparent).
