Clay-making mineral of the group kaolin-serpentine (kaolinite, halloysite, lizardite, chrysolite), of the ideal form Mg6[(OH)8Si4O10] with a typical empirical analysis of MgO 43%, SiO2 44.1%, H2O 12.9%
Hardness: 3-4 Density: 2.5-2.6 Soluble in HCl and H2SO4 Magnesium silicate common to granites and feldspathics.
