POTASSIUM FELDSPARS

Miscellaneous

Notes

(Richard Willis)

Any of the potassium-bearing aluminosilicate minerals, the paradigm being the orthoclase group in general and sanidine in particular. see alkali, alkali feldspar, feldspar, feldspathoid, feldspathic earths, plagioclase, orthoclase, etc.
feldspar groups & their occurrences
sanidine
: potassium-rich volcanic rocks and near-surface minor intrusions — e.g., rhyolites and trachytes
orthoclase: potassium-rich dike rocks — e.g., rhyolite and trachyte porphyries; granites, granodiorites, and syenites; arkose moderate-to high-grade metamorphic gneisses and schists
microcline: granitic pegmatites, hydrothermal veins granites, granodiorites, and syenites;arkose; low-to-moderate-grade metamorphic rocks
