PHONOLITE

Miscellaneous

Notes

(Richard Willis)

Volcanic rock, essentially of nepheline, anorthite (sanidine), and aegirine (acmite), with noseane, olivine, Hauyne, sodalite, Melanite, and hornblende. Formed by magma eruptions, it can be viewed as the younger, volcanic equivalent of nepheline-syenite: as a fritted nepheline-syenite.
