Igneous rock, of deep-blue stone made up mainly of the lazurite mineral, used for gems and pigments, that has inspired clays and glazes from Chinas Bleu Lapis to Englands Lapis lazuli and Derby Blue, to Americas Parian, usually as a variegated, Marbled, clay and/or glaze effect. Glazes are normally rendered of blue tones by the use of cobalt, though the stone itself does not contain such.
