LAPI

Miscellaneous

Notes

(Richard Willis)

Igneous rock, of deep-blue stone made up mainly of the lazurite mineral, used for gems and pigments, that has inspired clays and glazes from China’s “Bleu Lapis” to England’s “Lapis lazuli” and “ Derby Blue”, to America’s “Parian”, usually as a variegated, Marbled, clay and/or glaze effect. Glazes are normally rendered of blue tones by the use of cobalt, though the stone itself does not contain such.
