Notes
(Richard Willis)
A clay-making mineral of a sub-group (including its rarer forms, dickite and nacrite, halloysite, and allophane, which are chemically similar to kaolinite but amorphous) within the group kaolin-serpentine (halloysite, lizardite, chrysolite), of the ideal form 2SiO2 Al2O3 2H20 (or, Al4[(OH)8, Si4O10]) with a typical empirical analysis of Al2O3 39.5%; SiO2 46.5%; H2O 14%
Hardness: 1 Density: 2.6 Soluble in H2SO4 Principal mineral of kaolin clay.
