Notes
Common laundry bleach (tradenamed "Clorox" in the US, "Javex" in Canada) is a solution of 5.75% sodium hypochlorite, NaOCl. On heating the composition reverts to lye (NaOH) and liberates chlorine gas and some nascent oxygen. It is an effective fungicide and anti-mildew agent at concentrations above 10 ppm, however for sterilizing clay considerably more may be needed since the clay particles will absorb much of the compound.
